The Shots Trust have joined forces with the Farnham Sixth Form College in a unique and exciting new
partnership.
In an effort to keep the work of the Shots Trust in the foreground, we decided to re-design our website and
as you can see, that work is now underway!
One of the areas we decided would be great to develop was to start providing more video footage and as
a result our new partnership was born. Speaking about how the venture first came about, Trust
Communications Director Mike Wray said: “It wasn’t a difficult decision to be honest.
After a year of getting the Trust bedded in following the merger with the Supporters Club, we had lots of ideas floating around so there has been a massive rush to try and get as much as we can off the ground and moving in the right direction.
“We identified that our website was going to be a main vehicle for us to promote our work and ideas and everything fitted into place.
“Having studied TV & Video Production at the Farnborough College of Technology after leaving school, I was aware that students are often looking for “real” projects that they can get involved in, so I made an enquiry with the media department at the college to asked if they would be interested in working on a project for us and the Head of Media, Laurie Winn was really keen and didn’t hesitate in getting involved.
“I then approached former Trust Board Director Mark Maynard, to see if he would be interested in taking ownership of the project as I knew he had more recent experience in the field and man-power is what we really need to get our ideas moving forwards at a faster pace, and thankfully Mark is still fully committed to Trust values and immediately saw that this ticked all of the boxes in that respect.
“Along with former Trust Chairman Tony Sharp, we held a meeting at the college which proved to be really productive and we discussed what we were after and how we thought the students could help us. We were really impressed with their [the students] enthusiasm and we’re certain it will be a success.
“The students had some great ideas and started to develop our original plans to become more effective and it really showed how involving other areas within the community in our work can only be a positive thing.
“It’s a win-win situation really as not only does it tick the boxes in what a Trust is all about – we’re getting a quality production at no cost, the students are gaining a “live” platform for their work which will also go towards grading in their exams and they’ll also be able to sign post their work on their CV’s and a wider spectrum of people will become aware of the Shots Trust as well as Aldershot Town Football Club.
“I’m also hoping that once we have their production on our website, we will be able to take it to the Football Club and hopefully get them to see the benefits of involving the college in the future.
“We’ve got some real talent on our doorstep here in Aldershot and I’m sure that students on future courses would be able to produce some really good quality promotional videos that would enhance the official website, so this is very much a partnership that can work in everybody’s favour.”
The students have various modules to complete during their academic year and are currently in the process of producing a music video but they are looking forwards to getting stuck in to our project in the early part of the New Year.
As you’ll see, the “Join Us” page of the website has already been prepared so as the video can take pride of place and in the meantime, Mark is having ongoing contact with the students and has provided them with a working copy of our brief while they are expected to create a budget, storyboards and everything else that goes along with being a production company, just as they would be expected to do within the industry.
