To tie in with our match day programme notes tomorrow (against Shrewsbury Town), we’re extremely pleased to be able to announce that the Shots Trust Scoreboard project that we’ve been mentioning over the past few months, is expected to be unveiled at a home
match during the early part of January 2012!
The idea for the scoreboard originated following a donation
from the Shots’ most senior supporter, Frank Burt, who was
hoping that his donation could be put towards a clock that could
be located within the EBB Stadium. As we looked into the
project, things began to snowball and in conjunction with
Frank, we decided to aim higher and obtain something on a far
grander scale, that could benefit both the supporters and the
Football Club, and looking at what other clubs had in place, we
set about securing a high quality scoreboard.
Armed with Frank’s donation, Trust Project Director John Orme
undertook some great work behind the scenes and developed
partnerships with club sponsors Hi-Speed Services,
Goldstation Jewellers and the Rock and Pop Foundation and
after months of hard work, all four parties have agreed to equally fund the £17000 facility – which has now been ordered and is due for installation during the early part of January.
As part of the project, John has also been in consultation with the club and it has been agreed that the facility will be mounted at the High Street End of the ground on the control tower, so that it can be viewed clearly from all areas of the EBB Stadium and it will be operated by the match day PA team who will make sure the information is kept up to date, second by second during the match.
We will be the first club to have this particular scoreboard installed and it will not only display the all important score-line and time elapsed, but will also provide opportunities for scrolling messages, artwork and advertisements to be screened, meaning that the club can benefit from additional advertising revenue so even if the score-line doesn’t reflect it – it will never be a bad result for the football club!
The facility is being sourced via LED Synergy who re based in Andover and on a rainy day back in October, the project team visited their factory to see the scoreboard in action and the team had great fun playing about with it – even predicting the score between the Shots and Manchester United the next time that we face them as you can see from the picture [above].
We’re sure the scoreboard will be a great enhancement to the Shots match day experience, so we hope everyone is looking forwards to the New Year and the grand "switch on"!
