Shots Trust Directors Sharon Woolley and John Orme were invited for a “behind scenes” look at local charity Step By Step on Tuesday 1st November 2011, after the Trust donated tickets to the charity for the League Two fixture between Aldershot Town and Burton Albion.
The tickets, which were donated by Trust members who were unable to attend the match, were split between Step By Step and the Source Café and were donated to people who may not otherwise get the opportunity to attend Shots games.
Sharon and John received the invite from Step By Step Community Fundraiser Leanne Grubb and both were really impressed by the combination of services and facilities that are being provided by the charity, which aims to help sixteen to twenty-five years olds in areas such as accommodation, support, training and counselling.
Speaking after the visit John said: “It was a great to be invited along by Leanne and we were really impressed with the facilities and services that Step By Step are offering backed up by a motivated team of workers.
“The tickets were distributed by Step By Step to some of their clients who were rewarded for “positively engaging in their training sessions” and they were really grateful to receive them.
“We were obviously really thankful to the Trust members who donated their tickets and their generosity has enabled us to open up a new community partnership with Step By Step and since the match, we’ve kept in contact with Leanne. Since the game, we've been able organise a hospitality package that we have donated and Step By Step will be auctioning it off at their Burns Night fundraising function early in the new year and they [Step By Step] have agreed to help promote the clubs Glitz & Glamour night that I am running at the club on Thursday 24th November in aid of Sophia’s Fund.
“It’s another example of how we at the Trust can help build mutually beneficial partnerships within our local community which is a real positive step for all parties and we’re looking forwards to working together further in the coming months.”
